TENOSYNOVITIS

Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the lining of the sheath that surrounds a tendon (the cord that joins muscle to bone). You may experience joint swelling in the affected area, pain and tenderness around a joint, pain when moving a joint, or redness along the length of the tendon. The goal of treatment is to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.

Tenosynovitis is the inflammation of the lining of the sheath that surrounds a tendon. A tendon is the soft tissue that connects muscle to bone. The protective tendon sheath is also known as the synovium. The wrist and hands are common places for inflammation of the sheath, often caused by overuse or sudden injury.

You may experience joint swelling in the affected area, pain and tenderness around a joint, pain when moving a joint, or redness along the length of the tendon. The goal of treatment is to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. Many times, rest and anti-inflammatory medications will treat your symptoms. On top of resting the affected area, you may be given a splint or brace to immobilize your tendons to reduce inflammation. If you don’t respond conservative treatments, you may be a candidate for surgery.
